Since 2007 the notorious Calypso aficionados Jallimann and Rootsprovisionah a.k.a. RUMBA BOXX present a unique tropical mash-up style digging deep into old vinyl treasures, embracing timeless roots music and vintage visuals.
Though RUMBA BOXX will deliver everything from hot ska & reggae tunes, cumbia & salsa killers to steaming afro numbers, hypnotising conpas and forro jewels, their trademark is the mighty sound of Calypso and Mento - from the golden age of 1930 to 1970.
The name RUMBA BOXX refers to an old bass instrument of the Caribbean, typical for the Mento style of Jamaica. The roots of the Rumba box or Marimbula can be traced back to Africa where its predecessors are known as the Kalimba, Likembe or Mbira.
