About the music: Composed April 2014. String Quartet + Electric Piano. The haunted room is the place in my mind where the music comes from. The song began as a power chord drone in the left hand of the piano (AEA) and grew from there. The right hand plays a variety of chords over AEA going back and forth between major and minor. The result sounds very harmonious and familiar. Apparently there is some haunting by 17th century harmonies here as well.

Chess spoiler:
1a) 1. Qg8+, Rxg8 2. Nf7 #
1b) 1. Ng4, h3 2. Nf2 #
2) 1. Nf7+, Kg8 2. Nh6+, Kh8 (if Kf8, Qf7 mate) 3. Qg8 +, Rxg8 4. Nf7 #
3) 1. Qe6 + leads to the same checkmate as on the last page
4) 1. Qh7 +, Nxh7 2. Ng6 #
6) Yes. If the white rook takes the queen, Rg1 by black mates. If the white rook retreats to g2 then white takes pawn with the queen on h2 forcing black to take her with the rook and then black mates on g1 with his rook. (from a game by Steinitz)
7) Re8+, Kg7 2. Rg8 #; Bonus: Rf2 # and Nxh2 #
8) Ng4 and white has no way to stop mate except to play Qxg4.
9) 1. Qh3 threatening mate on h7 is best responded to by h5 after which black's position will be very difficult.
10) Rh3 gives black a big edge (white must play Rf2 to stop checkmate on h2) (similar to the ending of Rubenstein's immortal game)
11) white: Qf6 #; black Nxc2 #
12) Rh5 #; and second puzzle: Qxh7#, Kxh7 2. Rh5#
13) two solutions: 1. Qh4 +, Kg1 2. Ne2 # or 1. Qh5+, Kg3 2. Ne2#
14) Qg1+, Rxg1 2. Nf2 #
15) Qh7+, Kg8 2. Qxf7 #
16) Rh8+, Bxh8 2. Qh1, rook on f8 moves, 3. Qh7+, Kg7 4. Qxf7 #
17 ) Qh5 is white's move; The only move to stop mate is to give up the queen for the knight. Moving the rook 1.. Re8 is answered by 2. Qxf7+ Kh8 3. Qh5+ Kg8 4. Qh7+ Kf8 5. Qh8+ Ke7 6. Qxg7#.
18) yes. After 1. Bxh7+ Kxh7 2. Ng5+ black has four king moves. Kh8 loses quickly to Qh5+. Kh6 loses the queen to Nxf7+. Kg8 results in the puzzle from the previous slide. Kg6 is complicated but white is better.
19) No. The knight on d7 can move to f6 and cover h7, and black should weather the storm.
