DESCRIPTION:
One of my favorite songs for a host of reasons, not least of which is that it was written in a seven minute drunken stupor.
My vocals suffered on this as a result of listening to all the great players surrounding me:
The keyboard (Alex DelZoppo) and harmonica (Gary Popenoe) players literally listened to the cut as they drove over to the gig and then played without a rehearsal of any kind.
I just love Alex's part on this; so sparse and yet so full, like Jobim. What happens is that he was supposed to repeat the verse section for his lead ( like Gary just before him) and instead went right ahead into the chorus. AND WE ALL WENT ALONG; so smooth it was almost as if God planned it !!! Recorded at Kulaks Woodshed in North Hollywood.
