Wagner: Götterdämmerung (Swedish Royal Opera live at the Bolshoi Moscow) - Act 1 - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 27, 2017
DESCRIPTION:
Live recording at the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, USSR, 9th July 1975.
Released on Melodiya 5 x LP, 'Live Recordings Of Outstanding Musicians', August 1991.

Part of a complete 'Ring' cycle given by Swedish Royal Opera at the Bolshoi. This was the first time a complete cycle had been performed in Moscow since the 1930s. Sergei Eisenstein's legendary 1940 production of 'Die Walküre' was the last time that opera had been staged there until these performances. A 'Das Rheingold' was staged by the Bolshoi forces in 1980, but the production and musical quality was negatively received by critics and plans for a complete cycle were shelved.

For more information on Wagner reception and performances in the USSR, see Rosamund Bartlett's 'Wagner & Russia'.

NOTE: Due to a large scratch on side 4 of the records, I've had to make a small cut near the end of Act 1.
