Stereophonic the Bionic Skateland September 1980 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 09, 2017
DESCRIPTION:
Here we present another snapshot of a BIG dance in Skateland, one of the premier venues for HOT dancehall action in the 80's.... It was a roller skating rink owned by the colourful Jingles... The Big sdound systems of the day would string up and play music while the skaters would do their thing... At a certain point in the evening the skaters would take off the skates and the place would get RAM with people wanting to hear the latest tunes and, more importantly in this era, their favourite artists going live over the version....
We join this one on a September evening in 1980 as Big John's Stereophonic set is firing on all cylinders with a whole heap of entertainers in the dance...
Flux the operator drops Jimmy Rileys big tune of the moment, Give me a love and the singers flock to the Sound Room....The Skateland faithful get to hear Barrington Levy, Barry Brown & Sugar Minott inna combination over the version... Not to be outdone General Echo & Errol Scorcher have a go at singing making the crowd laugh and bawl forward before Maddo brings the singers showcase back on track... Then its up to the Brother & Sister combination of Sister Nancy & Brigadier Jerry to run out the rhythm..... Just an excerpt of a Classic Stereophonic session made all the better as it's from Brother Dave Browns far superior copy of the tape....
You can find the complete recording over at whocorkthedance.com..... PEACE
