Mandopop (Mandarin or Chinese Pop Music) is a musical genre that started in Shanghai during the roaring jazz period of the 1920s. The centre of Mando pop shifted to Hong Kong when the civil war started in China, and later still moved to Taiwan. Taiwan is now the undisputed centre for Chinese Pop Music.

Mandopop is different from Western Pop Music in that it infuses musical influences from Chinese, Japanese and Western Music, thereby acquiring a distinct characteristic. The songs are often full of angst and melancholy, speaking of love, pining and loneliness.

#FayeWong (b.1969) is a China-born singer who made her fame largely in Hong Kong. She is hugely popular now in mainland China, and has been dubbed the successor to Teresa Teng. She has been recognised by the Guiness Records as the Best Selling Cantopop female artiste.

#RedBean is a Chinese symbol of love and fidelity, and men give red beans to their female lovers to signify their love and faithfulness.
