How to Replace the Third Brake Light on a 2004 Toyota Matrix - Video

DESCRIPTION:
The stupid Sony camcorder focused on the far side of the viewable area unfortunately. But it is usually easy to change any lights in Toyota vehicles without any tools, but sometimes just a screwdriver and or needle nose pliers. For the top mounted third brake light there are two button things on the outer shell. Press the center of each and they release. The shell then comes off. The red plastic cover is held on by two delicate looking flanges that lift off. That's it. Installation is the reverse.

Notice LED bulbs are now as bright as incandescent bulbs and the same dimensions as stock. Installed a Sylvania Zevo 921R to replace the original top mount brake light and it is consistent with stock as far as brightness, but notice it comes on faster vs stock. Will be replacing everything but the headlights with Sylvania Zevos.

To do a 2004 Toyota Matrix or similar:
(2) Brake lights. 7443R. (R for red)
(2) Front turn signal lights. 1157A
(2) Rear turn signal lights. 7440A. (A for amber)
(3) Back up and third brake lights. 921. (No letter means white)
(2) License plate lights 168.

CF18-AR: 8 Pin adjustable speed flasher relay $15.33 shipped from superbrightled.com to eliminate the hyperflash issue with LED turn signals since LED bulbs use a fraction of the electricity as incandescent. The one thing that happens with an LED compatible turn signal relay is the first lighting is longer than the subsequent lighting. Not sure if that is good or bad, just a little different.

As far as installing the front turn signal lights, it is so tight, I used a drum stick,to loosen the housing and to fully tighten them in. I have XXL sized mitts and was able to do both sides without removing the battery, etc. You can hear the click when they are seated, also with the Zevo LEDs you will see they are lined up properly. Same thing for the rear lights, a pair of needle nose pliers comes in handy to loosen and tighten. All are simply counter clockwise a quarter turn to release and a quarter turn to tighten once lined up properly.

Audio is a D to C thing. One track of Nord Stage2 for piano sounds, one track Warmoth guitar, one track Warmoth bass, and a Machinedrum.
