Raw Smilez real name Llyle Hodge is a innovative 24year old, Hip Hop/Rap and Grime artist. Raw Smilez represents the young hip hop and grime culture of London which en-captures and relates to huge populations around the UK. The audiences for this genre and music influenced lifestyle have become a massive phenomenon in young adults and teenagers today.
Raw Smilez' music quest started in 2001 originally as nothing more then a laugh. Smilez and few friends from school formed a group that went by the name of Urban Rhymez. Although they weren't taking it seriously, tapes made in the bedroom quickly became weekly sets on various pirate radio stations. Soon enough, Smilez moved on up to Choice FM's Live Linq crew, an already established music sound in raves and clubs on the underground. This move expanded Smilez' horizons and exposed him to shows up and down the UK.
As Smilez' music matured so did he and wanting to take full musical control of his material he took part in a sound engineering course, which meant he could record, produce, mix down and distribute his 1st official project (Raw Stylez vol.1). The mixtape was released to coincide with the video for the Underground hit by Jay Wing (T.R.U.E West Mcs) featuring artists such as Manga (Roll Deep) and Flirta D (SLK) as well as Raw Smilez, the track got good feedback and was also aired on CHANNEL AKA (CHANNEL U at the time).
Fast forward to 2010 and Raw Smilez is still grafting, aside from playing an influential part of west London grime outfit Hot Off Da Block (HODB) Smilez has also been heavily linked with street collective G.M.Q (Get Mon£y Quick). His latest installment (Playground Politcks, April 2010) a follow up to his last release Ghetto Hopskotch has received raving reviews (over 9,000 downloads). Playground Politcks has collaborations with Skrilla Kid Villain (Eurogang), Firebarz and Fugzi Malone already established names on the underground. Smilez is currently working on his new mixtape (No More Games) and an upcoming e.p/album.
