Riding on the footplate of a live steam engine at the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (inc harmonica) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 23, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
This is a video for my godson, Robin, as he likes trains and harmonicas.

My partner and I went for a ride on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway in the Lake District (http://ravenglass-railway.co.uk/). I remembered loving this 15" line when I was a kid and my partner noticed that my excitement for such things was undimmed by the intervening years, so she asked the driver if I could join him on the footplate. He agreed and pointed me towards the station master, who considered me sufficiently sound in mind and limb to receive a footplate pass.

The journey was delightful. The driver was great and explained everything as we went along (I failed to catch his name in the excitement, but he'd worked for the railway for over 40 years specialising in carriage maintenance and really knew his stuff).

I've added a bit of ropey harmonica playing to the soundtrack for my own, and hopefully Robin's, amusement.

BTW Yes, you do hear a cat meowing in the background. He worries that I'm in pain when I play my harmonica. I didn't do another take to avoid causing him more anxiety.
