DESCRIPTION:
Wolfgang Alexander Albert Eduard Maximilian Reichsgraf Berghe von Trips, was born in Cologne, Germany 4 May 1928.

The 1961 Italian Grand Prix on 10 September could have been the culmination of von Trips' career, as a third place would have been sufficient to secure the Formula One World Drivers Championship that year.

At the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, his Ferrari collided with Jim Clark's Lotus. His car became airborne and crashed into the crowd, killing 14 spectators. Von Trips also died, leaving team-mate Phil Hill to clinch a bitter world title.

At the beginning of the sixties German Ferrari driver Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips had been the idol of a whole Generation.
Von Trips, born in 1928, had not been involved in the system of the Nazis, because he had been much too sick. In the fifties he had been the first German sportsman being internationally respected.

Later the descendant of a 700 years old knight´s line became a worldwide synonym for sportsmamship and fairness. In 1961 von Trips had been on the direct way to win the Formula One worldchampionship, but at Monza he crashed fatally. World champion became his American team mate Phil Hill. In spite of Ascari, Lauda and Schumacher von Trips is considered the Ferrari driver having got the greatest charisma.

Until Michael Schumacher won the World Championship in 1994, von Trips was Germany's most successful grand prix driver. Always quick, he shrugged off the reputation as a crasher he had garnered in his early career when he rejoined Ferrari in 1960. A number of top-six placings that year were followed by a determined assault on the World Championship in 1961.

On January 13, 1960 Graf Trips founded the "Scuderia Colonia". The aim of this association of active motor sportsmen was and still is today - the promotion of young racers who particularly was the Count Trips at heart.

He dedicated himself not only ideologically, but also materially. So a German car, the trip-Colotti-Auto Union was (TCA) designed for Formula Junior. It was designed by the Italian engineer Valerio Collotti of constructed the TCA Formula Junior racing car with a DKW engine as a cheap alternative to the vehicles of commercial racing car manufacturers.
Thanks to his efforts five BMW 700 Sport Coups Moreover purchased at special rates for young touring car drivers in Munich.

Universal genius CHRIS REA, himself one of the world`s uncountable Ferraristi, but really with Italian blood in his vains, had given a final, great memorial to the heroe of his youth:
LA PASSIONE - the passion.......Wolfgang von Trips.

"La Passione" is a British 1996 drama film written and produced by Chris Rea, directed by John B. Hobbs, and starring Sean Gallagher, Paul Shane and Shirley Bassey.

It is a tale of 10-year-old northern boy, the son of a Italian immigrant ice-cream making family, who develops a lifelong obsession with motor racing and especially with the real-life racer Wolfgang Von Trips, who was killed in his sharknose Ferrari 156 at the Monza Grand Prix in 1961.

The movie is partially inspired by the Rea's childhood experience.
Rea commented how "everyone's got a Von Trips in their life ... for some people it happened through football or movies - a day when a boy's empty, innocent mind suddenly has all kinds of new stuff blown into it".
