Pumuky - El eléctrico romance de Lev Termen y la Diva del Éter (Los Conciertos de Radio3).wmv - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 26, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
The name Pumuky hides the personality of Jaír Ramírez (1980-Icod de los Vinos, Tenerife), an eager, patient kid who for years has barricaded himself in his room in search of melodies to soothe his spirit. With time, his talent was joined by a group of musicians and friends who are helping him pursue his dream. An old saying which old sea explorers used centuries ago is the basis of the title of Pumuky's third album. "Plus Ultra" as in " "non terrae plus ultra" ("no more land beyond"), which warned mariners not to go further than the limits of the known Earth. A similar motivation to find new territories beyond their own limits has driven Pumuky in this new musical adventure. And they have done this without giving up their identity, a recognizable style which spawns songs which can illuminate from the darkness.
Pumuky tend to avoid speaking about influences, but they declare themselves fans of artists with a strong personalities, like Deerhunter, Atlas Sound, The National, Sufjan Stevens, Damien Jurado, Migala, Mono... to name but a few. We might like to add some unexpected influences too, maybe even unbeknownst to the band, as we feel the record has veered into slightly more pop textures (Benjamin Biolay, Dominique A...) which add extra transparency and clarity.
