In March 1939, five years after the killing of notorious criminal "Pretty Boy" Floyd by the FBI, Woody Guthrie wrote "The Ballad of Pretty Boy Floyd." a song romanticizing the bank robber's life. On August 30, 1968 The Byrds released their Columbia album, Sweetheart of the Rodeo. From this album a single of this song was released on September 2. Lead vocal is by Roger McGuinn and participating musicians included Chris Hillman on electric bass, mandolin, & acoustic guitar, Gram Parsons on acoustic guitar, piano, organ, Kevin Kelley on drums, Roy Husky on double bass, & John Hartford on acoustic guitar, banjo, & fiddle. Sweetheart of the Rodeo is considered the pioneer country-rock album. This sound recording is administered by SME.
