Pound Sterling

A young hustler with undeniable talent who takes scenarios from his gritty reality and turns them into razor sharp lyrics and underground anthems. Known more for his flamboyant nature and lavish spending Pound Sterling is the epitome of a London hustler. Originally planning to remain behind the scenes in the music industry and manouver as a businessman rather than an artist. He set up his own studio and record label with his long time friend Bones Mack and cousin Don Nicholas. After observing the U.K. rap scene for a year from behind his desk he decided to step into the vocal booth. He felt most rappers were frauds and were rapping about lifestyles they knew nothing about and things they had never experienced. So in January 2004 Pound Sterling and his affiliates released their first mix cd "Beat Robbery Volume One." A classic underground hip-hop disc on which they put down an uncompromising, uncut account of how they were living and things they had experienced. After an incredible response they had no hesitation in bringing out the sequel Beat Robbery Volume Two in July 2004 and then Volume Three in December 2004. A movement had begun.



Whilst recording the mix cds Pound Sterling had also been recording the bulk of his debut album "Money Before Music." After collecting beats from several producers across the U.K. He recorded twelve tracks in two weeks. Feeling that he had a classic album on his hands the businessman in him took over and he chose not to release it immediately, (much to the disappointment of his fans) instead he decided to shoot videos to selected tracks from the album and let people get to know him and what he was about.



The first video "For My Dogs" was a truly groundbreaking production. The menacing bassline, Pound Sterling's ferocious delivery combined with the lavish cinematic video lead to the track dominating the Channel U charts for ten weeks and selling thousands of ringtones. A star was born. The second video "So Real" was a deeper more heartfelt effort on which "Pounds" spoke about his struggle and some of his experiences over a soulful George Benson break. With no expense spared on the video it received heavy rotation on Homechoice, Mtv Base and once again reached number one on the Channel U chart plus major radio stations were beginning to show love. Although the streets were now talking more than ever and the following was getting bigger daily he knew there was one particular audience he needed a track for before he could release his album, women. His third video "All About Us" was a smooth track on which he told the ladies what they wanted to hear before switching to another underground banger "Big Time Hater" on which he addressed the many haters he had gained on his rise. The success of these tracks, support on the roads and overwhelming demand add up to now being the time for the long awaited release of "Money Before Music."



Pound Sterling's phenomenal work rate, charisma, wit and ability to tell his story in rhyme form separates him from his contempories. He doesn't work the U.K Hip Hop circuit grabbing every open mic He doesn't stand on the corner performing to camcorders. He's about his money. It’s more than music it's a true story and every video is reality TV at its best.
