Western Mass' Potty Mouth come out swingin' on their vinyl debut. Brave to jump straight to 12" from a demo, but, let's be real, the 12" EP is the best format and they actually use it quite well. The demo hits ("Dog Song" comes to mind) are rerecorded and made better, and the new hits are even better. "Kids" acts as the single on this 12" (which has an accompanying video that you can see by clicking the link above!) and it sums up this band perfectly; there is a certain naivety to the Potty Mouth sound and aesthetic that perfectly mirrors classic Slumberland-era indie pop and c86 music. Using buzz words like "Slumberland" and "c86" are often used as very overly kind comparisons, but I feel it entirely appropriate for Potty Mouth.

Beyond "Kids," this 12" is one of the better pop records I've heard in a long time and I would highly recommend it to anyone with a curious ear. True, I think it loses a little steam at the end, as I think the last two songs are the weakest of the bunch, but I'm willing to overlook that when the rest of the material is so good.
