DESCRIPTION:
Live in the Fraser Performance Studio at WGBH in Boston, violinist Anne Akiko Meyers and pianist Anton Nel perform "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" written by Harold Arlen, arranged by Makoto Ozone.

Anne Akiko Meyers is one of the most sought after concert violinists on the stage today. She regularly performs as guest soloist with many of the world's most prestigious orchestras, in recital, and on television and radio. She is a top-selling recording artist who has more than 24 highly acclaimed albums to her credit.

In 2013, it was announced that Anne was selected to receive lifetime use of the 'Vieuxtemps' Guarneri del Gesu, reportedly the most expensive violin ever sold, and considered to be one of the top violins ever created.

Anne was born in San Diego, California and grew up in Southern California. She studied with Alice and Eleonore Schoenfeld at the Colburn School of Performing Arts, Josef Gingold at Indiana University, and Felix Galimir, Masao Kawasaki and Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School. At age 23, she was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, the only artist to be the sole recipient of this annual prize.

Cathy Fuller hosts this episode of Drive Time Live on Classical New England, 99.5 FM in Boston.
