DESCRIPTION:
This is a poem that I wrote myself regarding my own sexuality and the prejudices I receive because of it. I hope that you like it.

Here is a transcript of the poem:

My name is Emma and I am bi.
"Sigh, boohoo, it must be so
hard for you, right?" Well,
Actually, yeah, sometimes it is
When in this crazy, current society,
We're still trying to see in black
And white, in a binary.
You're straight or you're gay;
You like boys or you like girls.
Since when has anything in this world
Not had a few shades of grey?
If I say I like both then
I don't mean I just haven't chosen.
I'm not attempting to get men's attention;
It's not pretending, some trendy pretention
To mention that I kissed a girl
And I liked it. Furthermore,
I am not just a bike. It
Is ridiculous to think a girl
Is promiscuous just from her sexual
Orientation. These blatant,
Brutal bisexual myths still exist
And this is what I want to dispel
I welcome you to my personal hell
Where I'll get people telling me
That I am greedy. I mean, really?
I'm not that needy. I don't reel in
Man after woman and woman
After man, pursuing everyone,
Anyone I can and no,
Actually I don't want a threeway
With that man and his bicurious
Girlfriend, okay? Being bisexual
Is not just a gateway. One day
I will not decide to be gay.
It'd be great to be gay!
Shoot me with the gay laser!
I wouldn't have to deal
With bisexual erasure: a major
Issue in our media industry.
Maybe you heard about Megan Fox
And Angelina Jolie. What about
Lindsay Lohan, P!nk and James Dean?
Oscar Wilde, Amy Winehouse,
Cara Delevigne? Lady Gaga and Kesha,
Amber Heard, Cary Grant,
The lead signer of Green Day,
Nicki Minaj, Anne Frank?
Tom Daley, Freddie Mercury,
Marilyn Monroe? Cate Blanchett,
Fergie, David Bowie, Marlon Brando?
In your head you might think:
"Hey, hey hey. I heard that one
Was straight and I know that one
Is gay." But they're not!
Listen to what they actually say.
And it doesn't matter
If they got married either.
You don't stop being bi
With a ring on your finger.
In monogamy, bisexuals
Can still feel complete and
Not cheat. If a person mistreats,
It's because they're unhappy
And crappy, exactly how gays
And straights cheat when married.
I don't go for girls when
I can't find men to date
And if I have a boyfriend
Then that doesn't make me straight.
Yes, I'm sure that it's not a phase.
I've been comfortably out
For nine years not nine days.
I'm not looking to lay down a burden
And I don't want to hear
"I bet I could turn ya."
It's your delusion that I
Have confusion; my conclusion
Is that I like girls and guys.
Surprise! That makes me bi!
And by the way, my sexual
History can remain a mystery.
Having sex didn't prove
That I was bi, I already knew.
I knew I was bi before I had sex
With anyone. Sleeping with women
First didn't make me a lesbian.
Sleeping with men then
Didn't change anything.
The very thing that I want to
Leave with is this. Being
Bisexual is tough. It is.
Biphobia is real, and I feel
Its sting even from within
The gay community.
I didn't choose my sexuality
But a lesbian once said
She couldn't date me
Because of how I identify.
My name is Emma, and I
Am proud to be bi
And I hope you'll all stand
And fight for what's right.
There's no binary. This world's
Not black and white.
