Plastic Fantastic Lover The Pink Album Self-released By Cory Casciato Published on October 27, 2009 at 1:36pm westword, denver, co "It's hard to put your finger on Plastic Fantastic Lover's music. Most of it falls somewhere between a folkier Tom Waits and a mildly psychotic take on the Grateful Dead's mellow, hippie-folk side. But then it takes a turn into something like electronic down-tempo for a track or two before slipping into a weird, abstract jam from the quieter side of post-rock, all flanged guitar and reverb-soaked electric piano. Less an album than a haphazard batch of songs, the whole collection appears to be the work of mastermind Chris Jeffries, with various acquaintances assisting. In any case, it reveals an unusual mind and talent at work; the result is schizophrenic and disjointed, but there are gems to be found here, even if they are a bit unpolished and in strange shapes".

"IT SOUNDS LIKE A CAT BEING SUCKED INTO A LAWNMOWER IT HAS BEEN CALLED PSYCHEDELIC HONKY-TONK FROM THE NOT TO DISTANT MISERABLE FUTURE, A STYLE OF MUSIC THAT IS THE DIRECT RESULT OF CRAWLING ON ONES HANDS AND KNEES THROUGH BROKEN GLASS AROUND THE WORLD THREE TIMES. IT SOUNDS LIKE AND ENDLESS DUMPSTER FULL OF ANIMAL PARTS NEXT TO YOUR APARTMENT ON THE 4TH OF JULY. IT WILL BE REMEMBERED AS THE EPIC CONTENT WHICH CONVERTED JESUS TO CHRISTIANITY AND PRY APART THE DEVILS WALLET WITH THE JAWS OF LIFE, PSYCHEDELIC COWBOY PARTY MUSIC FROM THE NETHER REGIONS OF SPACE OR THEREFORE THE SPACE IN BETWEEN. HIP-TONK OR ACID GRASS THE PERFECT MIXTURE OF TWO WORDS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL SOUND AND MOTION INFLICTED. PISS IN THE WIND AND LISTEN FOR YOURSELF, EACH SONG IS DIFFERENT, BUT NOT BY MUCH, EACH SHOW IS A COMPLETELY UNFORGETTABLE AND AN AMAZINGLY ENTERTAINING TRAVESTY. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE UNDERWEAR OF CULTURE IS SOILED BEYOND REPAIR, WE WILL BASK IN GOD'S SWEET LIVING EMBRACE AND SWALLOW HIS SWEET SUNSHINE AND LISTEN TO PLASTIC FANTASTIC LOVER" WES FREDLEY-- KRZY RADIO----CARVER, PA----9/9/07

Travelling homeless for the four years and a half, genius Chris Jeffries and his project the Plastic Fantastic Lover has had a mass of rotating players. Starting in Denver, Colorado before Jeffries turned 20 he

was working for and living above the largest independent music venue in Colorado, The Oriental Theater. After working for the 700 capacity club for sometime Jeffries met DJ Z-trip, Nels Cline of Wilco, Jefferson Starship and many more

he took the advice of all the bands he worked with and pursued his own music career travelling. Ending up in San Francisco Jeffries found a 10 piece band to back him and the material to write some of the deepest most unforgettable songs

delivered with a voice that has seemed to have seen a great deal of painful self-realization. Jeffries will play the 8 instruments he has come to master including accordion and cello, and also display some of his art on his upcoming tour to New Orleans

If Lou Reed had lived in the '30s and had an affinity for moonshine instead of heroin, he would sound dangerously close to the delicate rootsiness of what Chris Jeffries is creating. Combining the swagger of Mr. Reed with the bad-luck living and roaring fingerpicking of folk stalwarts like Lead Belly, Jeffries creates a sound that could be plucked straight out of your granddaddy's Crosley. This three-song, self-titled EP also conjures images of Chris Adolf's pre-Bad Weather California project, the Love Letter Band, which, like Jeffries himself, was stripped down, slightly psychotic and teetering on the verge of its own classification. Although Jeffries calls on a myriad of influences, he is close to creating a sound that is uniquely his own — and right at home on any chain gang.
