DESCRIPTION:
Wrote this some time ago and now its come of age, what do you think?
This is the songwriters version.

Lyrics:
These are Mammon times in the age of bling where money talks and cash is King,
brokers of power are pulling the strings keeping us hooked on material things.

The table creaks with an abundant feast and yet, with the mind set of wildebeest,
we follow a trail that glorifies gold where corruption is generous and openly sold.

We think money's gonna make us happy - gonna buy us power and immortality,
oh but money's like a junkies' habit and you've got to have it if you wanna be free.

These are Mammon times make no mistake every desperado's on the make and take,
bureaucrats bleed us and feed us rules we bleat like sheep and kick like mules - but still suffer the fools.

While the fishes swim in chemical streams and rainbows choke on gasoline
we pamper the pharaohs, celebrate their birth and they tell us the meek shall inherit the earth - well what's it worth?

We think money's gonna make us happy - gonna buy us power and immortality,
oh but money's like a junkies' habit and you've got to have it if you wanna be free.

These are mammon times said the evangelist - the christian secret of happiness
is all laid out in black and white just pay the preacher and you'll see the light - that's right.

You get a halo with a guarantee - a resurrection and divinity,
a dollar gets you God and free from sin, fifty more and you can talk with him - amen.

We think money's gonna make us happy - gonna buy us power and immortality,
Oh but money's like a junkies' habit and you've got to have it if you wanna be free.

All instruments played by Phil Saatchi and Eddie except for Martin on trumpet with backing vocals sung by the lovely Alison David. Words and music by Eddie Howell.
