Angels We Have Heard On High (arr. Mike Marshall) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 20, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
J. P. Rogers wrote: Mike Marshalls version of "Angels We Have Heard On High", from his solo guitar record Midnight Clear, demonstrates a fingerstyle approach miles away from the thumping alternating bass. It's a looser, more syncopated style, with the melody or bass notes often coming after the downbeats - a reflection, perhaps, of his love of Latin music. "I tend to displace things rhythmically", he says. "It's more interesting to me." ... The droning bass, in particular, just cries out to be improvised over.
Long ago I got the score for this piece but never played it. I found two versions of it on YT, played by my YT friends "tonedr" and Zane Charron, they were very inspiring and I send a big Thank You to them on this way! Finally I recorded my own version and added a new section which came out by improvising over the bass notes. Hope I did not destroy the piece and you will enjoy it!
Merry Christmas to all of you! Bernd
