DESCRIPTION:
Demonstration of a 3.0 length Choukan (E, bass) Hocchiku style all-natural shakuhachi. This instrument was made in respect to Watazumi, the Komuso monk who founded the Dokyoku style Honkyoku music. It was Watazumi who coined the term Hocchiku - Darma Bamboo - and used these natural instruments with a spiritual approach in playing shakuhachi music. I am playing as neutrally as possible to offer the clearest glimpse of the character and response of this instrument without out "milking" the sound. Any experienced player can manipulate this flute's tone to be sweet or raspier. This is a very long flute made for a tall person.
