DESCRIPTION:
Taken from the compilation album Alms: a benefit for Ptolemaic Terrascope, 1997.

So many bands offered tracks to the independent British magazine The Ptolemaic Terrascope for its Succour, The Terrascope Benefit Album, that not all of them could fit onto two CDs. Hence, a companion collection, Alms, provides ten more choice psychedelic nuggets. Alms features trippier, more ethereal and ambient material by even less well-known artists than Succour. From the ethnically ethereal "Angle" by Nurse With Wound to Bari Watts' guitar-driven raver "Plastic Bag" (written by the Bevis Frond's Nick Saloman), Alms cooks from start to finish. There are no '60s throwbacks or long, meandering two-chord feedback jams either. These artists' outlook is modern, and the music is focused. The highlight of the disc is the full version of the slow burner "Way to Coimbula" by the Japanese band Ghost, a minute of which appeared on Succour. ~ Jim Powers, All Music Guide
