Sufi-Baul- Fusion with Paul Cheneour & Dilly Meah - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 28, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
These two CDs of Sufi Baul-Fusion are a modern day collaboration by two masters exploring several Indian styles but played with on European flutes. The alto flute sound predominates, with concert flute and bass flute extending the tonal range. Cheneour's beautiful tone on these instruments, and strength in the high upper and lower bass registers, adds more expressive range than is generally heard on a standard bansuri or bamboo flute.

With eight or nine contrasting tracks per CD, both offer a generous concert of improvised music, and there is a third element of ambient studio drone, which provides a shifting subtle tonal anchor to support the modal and harmonic changes. This background, like a shifting musical rainbow, underpins the hand percussion and flute.

Dilly Meah, on tablas, is an amazing, and constantly inventive rhythmic partner for Paul. Sometimes he shapes the total music by playing more, other-times by playing less. Paul and Dilly mesh beautifully together, supporting and inspiring each other, they create music for the creative listener to treasure.

If you have to choose one CD, this would be difficult: start with Flames of Love.
