"If It's Love (Give Up the Hate)" - For South Carolina - Patrick Davis - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 06, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
Late last Tuesday evening June 28th I sat down at my piano and started writing a melody and lyric that I soon realized was a letter to my beloved home state of South Carolina...

I sat with my words and music and couldn't help thinking about the pain and sadness brought upon so many by what happened at the Emanuel AME Church in downtown Charleston on the night of June 17th, but as I sat there I also thought about how profoundly beautiful I found the reaction to this horror was by the people of the great state of South Carolina, MY South Carolina, OUR South Carolina....

I know there was & will forever be anger, tears, questions & pain over this heinous act, but from my view in Nashville, TN what made me so very proud to be a native of South Carolina was the forgiveness, community, brotherhood & love.... so much love... that I witnessed on tv broadcast, social media and more.

I am a singer & songwriter so music is how I see the world... it is my language... in happiness, in sadness, for better or for worse... and I suppose it is with that in mind that I wrote this song and made this video. The people of my native state are in my humble opinion some of the kindest and most loving people in the entire world and while I, like everyone, am extremely heartbroken by the circumstances surrounding the past few weeks I do find a small dose of comfort in how the people of South Carolina have come together during this tragedy... and I am immeasurably proud to know that the rest of the world has caught a glimpse of what the people of South Carolina have long known to be true... yes we are different, but we are ONE people.

Let's Please Continue to Prove This.

Much Love
PD

**Every musician, background singer, studio & mix engineer did this project 100% for free... and not one of them is a from or grew up in South Carolina. #Love
