Erik Satie : De l'enfance de Pantagruel: Reverie - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 24, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
This is a solo piano arrangement Satie made in 1919 of the first of his '3 petites pieces montées' (Three little stuffed pieces), written for orchestra and for piano four-hands. All the pieces are based on characters from Rabelais. They were Satie's contribution to Cocteau's entertainment 'Le Boeuf sur le Toit', for which Milhaud wrote the title ballet. Satie only arranged the first piece for piano solo, and it is totally serious, in contrast to the light-hearted mood of the entertainment as a whole.

My thumbnail image is a detail from 'L'enfance de Pantagruel' by Gustave Doré (ca.1873).
