Little Tin Soldiers

1918 WW1-France
Nineteen-eighteen, half past three, in the middle of nowhere, it's a quiet Sunday in a dark and troubled land, write a letter home, but will it ever get there, write a little poem to bury in the sand. It read, one by one they're falling down like little tin soldiers, rank and file they fall down to their knees, if they were never anything more than little tin soldiers, why d'you think they suffer and they bleed.
1945 WW11-Hiroshima
Nineteen forty-five, the rising sun's afire, cities flat and scorched of all that stood before, somewhere deep inside you feel a little bit wiser, thinking that Enola had just put an end to war, but one by one they're falling down like little tin soldiers, one by one they fall down to their knees, if they were never anything more than little tin soldiers, why d'you think they suffer and they feel.
1966 -Vietnam
Nineteen sixty-six, in someone else's garden, flaming rains pour down incinerating kin, you grow your hair real long and talk of revolution, make the point that you know, no-one's gonna win, and one by one they're still falling down like little tin soldiers, one by one they fall down to their knees, if they were never anything more than little tin soldiers, why d'you think they suffer and they scream.
1989 Iran-Iraq
Nineteen eighty-nine, in a hot oppressive desert, deadly dust drifts round to settle while you sleep, it will come again, that push for retribution, someone else has broken the promises you keep, and one by one they're still falling down like little tin soldiers, one by one they fall down to their knees, if they were never anything more than little tin soldiers, why d'you think they suffer and they bleed.
1994-Anywhere & everywhere
Nineteen ninety-four, you're switching on your T.V., pulling on a tee-shirt with the slogans that you wore, pictures flashing by but they're not on your doorstep, everything's a lie until you put an end to war, because one by one they'll keep falling down like little tin soldiers, one by one they fall down to their knees, if they were never anything more than little tin soldiers, why d'you think they suffer and they feel.
Tomorrow.....???
Sometime in the future you'll be sitting on a shoreline, digging in the sand, a rifle at your feet, there's a little tin, inside you'll find a poem, it's only got four lines, and this is what it reads, one by one they're falling down like little tin soldiers, rank and file they fall down to their knees, if they were never anything more than little tin soldiers, why d'you think they suffer and they bleed, did you know they suffer and they feel, can't you hear them suffer when they scream.....
