Pádraig Rynne, Dónal Lunny and Sylvain Barou are three names that would individually inspire any traditional music fan. When three such influential and prolific musicians work together it creates great excitement amongst followers of Irish music. The unique show includes a mix of their newly composed and traditional pieces, Breton, Eastern tunes and a few songs from Dónal.
Dónal Lunny (bouzouki) is founding member of bands such as Planxty, The Bothy Band, Moving Hearts and Coolfin who all helped shape Irish music in an innovative way as only he can. He is probably the most respected and well-known Irish musician of all time.
Pádraig Rynne (concertina) is one of the most in demand musicians in Ireland at the moment. He is founding member of Guidewires and is involved in many ground-breaking projects of our modern era in Irish music. He is considered to be one of the trend setters in Irish music and is involved in many fusion projects.
Sylvain Barou (flute and uilleann pipes) is Breton music's finest. January 2012 saw the release of his first solo album and he is credited by many as having helped Breton music evolve further with his generation. He is also a founding member of Ireland's hottest band Guidewires and has been working with the best known musicians in Brittany, Ireland and India for the last number of years.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL:
The opening night, of the long running Festival was on Thursday September 13th 1979 at Douglas GAA Club; (there was no Festival in 1988) Put together from year to year purely on a voluntary basis by a dedicated group of enthusiasts, aided by major sponsorship, and a combination of various sponsors and supporters, including those who over the years contribute financially to the cost of staging the festival, Cork City Council, the Arts Council, Fáilte Ireland, Carling, Beamish Irish Stout and CIT, and the Evening Echo etc.

It's endurance is a tribute to the energy and labour of it's workers. it is appropriate to acknowledge the voluntary organising committee, and also the many volunteer workers who take charge of doors, organise artist accommodation, look after publicity, liaise with artists, and numerous other things involved in making such an event possible year on year. Particular recognition for Jim Walsh, Chairman and someone who has been a vital cog in Festival organisation since that very first year, long-serving Festival Director William "Hammy" Hammond, and also Timmy "the Brit" McCarthy, the inspirational figure behind the Festival's inception, as well as it's original Director/Secretary.
