Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band ~ Sour & Sweet/Lemon In The Honey 1976 Disco Purrfection Version - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 12, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
This entire album was a work of genius! Melding disco with the big band thing really brought nostalgia to the dance floor. Charlie Callelo probably had a lot to do with that, he went on to record disco versions of big band anthems like "Sing Sing Sing" which peaked at #50 on the Disco charts in late 1979. There was so much buzz over this album and just about every song found itself played in clubs all over the world. The joyous music provided a counterpoint to the sometimes harsh lyrics which did not seem to matter to the disco dancers. It was a chance to shake a leg 40's style while enjoying the new disco sound. This track has the same feel as "Cherchez La Femme" but does not copy it. The production values are top notch, and everyone seemed to be at the top of their game on this one, Cory Daye never sounded better or sassier! She sang with such an easy confidence, it was hard to not be drawn in. I'd have to say that the stars in the sky lined up perfectly during the recording of this album...one of a few I play all the way through. Huge buzz in the clubs caused "Cherchez La Femme" to peak at #27 in early 1977. The fun was short lived, subsequent followups were not as warm or commercial and the band faded away. Thomas Browder changed his name to August Darnell when he and Andy Hernandez left to form Kid Creole & The Coconuts. Cory Daye Released two disco songs to some measure of success, then the magic evaporated. They may be kaput, but this complete album is a sterling example of how good disco music could be. Here is my take on Sour & Sweet...Lemon In The Honey...long live Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band. Huzzah!
