"Shotgun" was Junior Walker & The All Stars first hit.
This one chord song was written by Walker and produced by Motown boss Berry Gordy.
The lyrics mention The Mashed Potato, The Jerk and Twine Time. All were popular dance moves in the mid-1960`s.
The studio line-up:

James Jamerson: Bass

Released in 1965, this classic Motown Soul song went on to top the R&B charts and reach number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Shotgun" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame 37 years later athough Junior Walker was no longer alive. He died of cancer in 1995.
The English Rock band Foreigner used Junior Walker to play the rip-roaring sax solo on their 1981 hit "Urgent".
Eddie Willis mentions the guitar intro to the song in the film: Standing In The Shadows Of Motown. According to Eddie, the sound at the beginning of the recording was him kicking his amplifier and: "What happened next was a whole lotta funk!"
