Paul "King Obstinate" Richards grew up in Green Bay and began singing calypso in 1956. He entered the calypso arena in 1958 and captured the title of calypso King with "Obsti will sing again" and "Dance, Dance, Dance" as well as becoming the first Antiguan to be crowned King.

The following year he left Antigua but when he returned in 1979 he headed straight for the calypso competitions and captured the title in three consecutive years from 1980-83, before retiring from competing.

Unfortunately, in 1998 Richards got a stroke, which affected his right side, however, with God and a lot of therapy, he was able to return to the studio and produce some gospel and christmas songs in 1999 among them the popular hit, How will Santa Get here.
