An Era of Monotony

In a culture which is defined by and celebrated for uniqueness and creativity, hip hop has recently become a genre of carbon copied formulas, staleness and monotony. Uniqueness and originality are the two most important qualities of any rap artist. However, most of today’s rap artists strive (some pushed by their recording labels) to use only proven formulas for success. Currently this formula includes all or some of the following: Auto-Tuned verses and hooks, guest appearances of artist currently on the Billboard Top 100 (i.e. Lil Wayne, Beyonce), reality & internet TV shows and YouTube videos. MySpace, Twitter and similar web sites created as tools to display individual uniqueness and talents have become the tools for record labels to observe and quickly replicate any growing trend and capitalize of it. This has become such a standard that most record labels fear an artist doing something that doesn't fit into the mold. This forces the bulk of artist to either conform to the trend or go underground, killing a culture who’s strength lies in creativity and one of kind ability. To drive home this point, rap star Nas released an album entitled “Hip Hop is Dead”. Some agreed, some disagreed. All concurred that even if hip hop is not dead it is definitely on the brink of destroying itself. Records sales are not down only because of the economy and internet. A large portion of consumers don't buy cd’s because they have one that sounds like this one already and they are simply ‘bored’ with modern day hip hop music.

-Enter Justice

A breathe of fresh air. Unique, original and creative. An artist embodying the true spirit of hip hop. Justice has the ability to remain marketable, yet true to self and purpose. This ability makes him an asset to any company and gives him a pivotal role in recreating modern day rap/hip hop.

His break out single “Hold Ya Belt” was heavily requested and became regularly rotated on Clear Channels Hot 107.9 in Upstate New York. It was also praised and received regular spins on other radio stations across the U.S. but most notably in Minnesota, Florida, California. Heavy play in California drew the attention of one of the some of the biggest names in hip hop on the West Coast. As a result, a remix to “Hold Ya Belt” was recorded featuring rapper Montana of Multi-Platinum selling artist Snoop Dogg’s “Tha Dogg Pound Next Generation”. The song was received very well and continued to experience success via radio stations across the U.S. with the heaviest rotation on internet radio stations.

The success of “Hold Ya Belt” ignited the rush for the release of a second single. This prompted the release of “So Hard” which was originally recorded for a movie soundtrack which was never released to the public. The songs featured the vocals of Raquel and was quickly snatched up into regular rotation on Hot 107.9 in much similar fashion as its predecessor. Justice immediately followed the release of this single with his street LP Justice: The Album Prequel. The Album Prequel was a collection of previously unreleased material recorded over the last few years. This release proved that Justice was more than an artist with a few good songs. With 22 songs of solid music featuring up and coming artist to well known artist such as PosterBoy, B.E.T.’s first Freestyle Friday Champion. Justice not only held his own but displayed that he is a force to be reckoned with in hip hop. His unique blend of lyricism, catchy hooks and rhythms matched with his introspective views on life make are sure to make the Justice a household name in upcoming years.
