Shawn Boogie: Time 4 A Change

Born & Raised in Champaign, IL (as Shawn-Diego LaVon Clark), Shawn Boogie has been serious about the art of rap since he was 10 years old and heard Snoop Doggy Dogg's "Doggystyle" for the 1st time. Since then he has been a man on mission. He's not doing it for the money. It's because he wants to. It's not a hustle. It's not a game. It's not an alternative. It's him. Music is his life. He has fun with it. He lives it, breathes it, cherishes it, nurtures it, needs it.



Since first deciding that he wanted to rap, he's worked with others. He was a co-founder of the group Eternal Thugs along with J Rush and Micah, which to be quite honest, was heavily influenced by Bone Thugs-n-harmony. They continued to make music together until Shawn moved to Springfield, IL in 1998.



It was there that he began using the stage name Dreama because he was a frequent daydreamer, always envisioning himself out of poverty, helping his family, and being famous. It was also then he began being influenced by many other artists, because being from the Midwest, the music scenes from surrounding regions were played throughout.



In 1999 Shawn met up with a neighbor of his by the name of Steve Johnson. They shared many similar tastes in music and that was a common bond for the two. So, in time, Dreama & Short Dawg began working together as well, first calling themselves Soul Survivaz and later moving to the present Frontline Boyz.



In 2003 Shawn enrolled in Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and he found another kindred spirit in his roommate Bryan "Hypnotiq" Simmons. It was at Carbondale where Survival Muzik was launched and Shawn officially changed his stage name to Shawn Boogie, borrowing from a childhood nickname.



Since then, Shawn Boogie has worked with a number of different local artists including Short Dawg, GeeZe, Brosia G, Terry Byrd, Masta Mind aka B-Boi, Chris G, and others. And now, with a buzz bigger than ever, it's time for the world to know just who Shawn Boogie is.
