Love and Courage Aboriginal Singers written by Glen heald - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 15, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
Love and Courage was written by Glen Heald and Debra Leasy Poe, it was a collaboration between Australian Aboriginals and African refugees from Liberia. Many thanks to Lou Bennett

The Live show was a collaboration between three of the most respected female indigenous vocalists in Australia and six Darwin-based Liberian ladies who were refugees from Liberia.

"They are the torture and trauma victims, you don't want to know what they've been through," says vocalist and creative director. "But this [performance] is positive, this is about hope."

All of the women have a story to tell many of the Liberian women who fled their country leaving their family behind.

Leasy Deborah Poe has only just been reunited with her eight year old daughter last month.

"July 4th it was, I was so happy to see her. She had been in Guinea in a refugee camp with my sister. I didn't see her for five years," Leasy says.

But the exhilaration before the performance over rode any memories of sadness, "I am very excited, this is like my first public appearance, I'm very much excited," says Leasy. the collaboration of these women is also a source of strength and power for each other.
