Nathalie Bretoneche's ProfileCreate Your Badge

Nathalie Bretoneche is a universal artist: Latin, European and American all at the same time.

She was born on March 28th, 1986 in Vaxjo, Sweden. Her father, Julio Bretoneche, was a young bohemian entrepreneur who had travelled from Peru to Europe in search of experience and fortune, and he found everything he wanted: fell in love with a beautiful and talented girl from Sweden named Solveig Nilsson, married her, and had three daughters, Adeline and twins Sophie and Nathalie.

Nathalie’s parents noticed her baby daughter had a special virtue for identifying sounds and music when, with only 12 months of age, little Nathalie could follow and make the sounds in perfect tune of the lullabies he mother sung to her and Sophie; and mother would know, she had studied classical music most of her life.

When Nathalie was three years old her family decided to move from Sweden to Spain, where she grew up surrounded by music, art, and cultural expressions everywhere. At the age of ten, she was accepted at the prestigious Cambrils School of Music, where she learned singing and piano techniques. But her great passion for modern music started when, at her early teenage years, her father introduced Nathalie to the music he loved: rock from the 60s and 70s, funk, soul and R&B.

She realized then that there was nothing else she wanted to do in life other that to sing, record, and perform in front of people. Little by little, as she evolved as a singer and songwriter, Nathalie defined her style and realized that what made her happier than anything else was to sing the music that was the most challenging to her voice: Soul, Funk, but specially Rhythm and Blues. Nathalie Bretoneche had found her place and purpose in life.

The family business kept growing and her parents decided to move to United States in 2003, where they chose Miami as their new place of residence. Nathalie felt quite at home within the multi-cultural diversity of the city, and felt closer to the R&B world she was trying to conquer.

A few years past and Nathalie built her own recording studio, she learned to produce and mix her own music, refining her style and crafting her songs at an accelerated rate. Quickly, she started to perform. She felt the need to share her talent and songs to people, which she did passionately and sharply for several years in many stages of the Miami, New York, and Spanish live circuit. Soon, she attracted the attention of R&B luminaries such as Anita Wilson –vocal coach and arranger who has worked with artists like Gloria Estefan, Betty Wright, and Jon Secada-, Arthur “Arty” White (guitar), and Rufus Jackson (bass), both of whom have been on tour with Alicia Keys.

With several dozen songs already crafted by her, a voice ready to be heard around the world, a mature enough style to set her apart from the rest, a clear vision of what she wanted to hear in her sound, and surrounded by the best musicians, it was imminent she had to start working on her debut album. So, in 2009 she began to put all the pieces together and by the end of summer she presents the album Livin’ The Life, a superstar album in its own right, from start to finish. With an all winner no filler selection of songs, Livin’ the Life is a wonderfully complex work mainly because it mixes great vocal arrangements –created by Bretoneche and Anita Wilson- with a display of sounds, beats, and a dimension of feelings that could redefine the gender itself.

With the expertise of extraordinary producer Owen “Ruddy” Knight, who guided Nathalie's production abilities. Bretoneche reaches a fantastic diversity of musical resources to help carry her songs about personal experiences, love and spiritual strength, all delivered in a warm and genuine language that describes the most essential substance of her music.

The real dimension of Nathalie Bretoneche’s work and talent could not have been described better than with the words of coach Anita Wilson, when she said,

“Nathalie blew me away. Her music defies normalcy, she is much more than a fresh air to the music industry, she is redefining it.”

Even though the road has not been short, this is really the beginning of a story that will go around the world several times. Through Livin’ The Life, Nathalie Bretoneche has arrived to stay in the hearts and the cultural baggage of all those who want to feel good through music.
