Norbert Putnam is a world-class musician, record producer, studio owner, and author. In his early career, Putnam played on pivotal R&B hits and opened for the Beatles in Washington DC as part of the original Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. Beginning in the mid-1960s he moved to Nashville, playing bass on hundreds of sessions, producing records on artists including Joan Baez, Dan Fogelberg, and Jimmy Buffett (Margaritaville), opening and running legendary Quad Studios, and working closely with Elvis Presley. In a long and important career, Putnam has helped to shape Nashville's diverse music story, and he continues his work as touring musician, producer, and consultant to university music programs.
