The original Pleyel-Pianoforte op.1614 is one of the last grand pianos, built in Pleyel's life time by his manufacture (January 1831). At that time, a Monsieur Biralle gained it for 2800 French Francs.

The keypad is built of ivory and ebony and measures six and a quater of octaves and one note (DO 1 bis FA 6). The Pianoforte has a half-English mechanism -- the hammer are coated with felt. Lyra with two pedas : Forte und una corda. The cast-iron border and the barres under the resonance-board arm the wooden border and achieve a wonderful sonority. The instrument exhibits an especially musucal document, particulary by its bright and coloured tone.

None less than Frédéric Chopin was impressed by the Pleyel-Pianos _ he complimented the lightly play of the instrument and romanticised, that "only a 'Pleyel' reflects, what You play". The instrument still is playable squarely _ in Paris, it has been used for recording of several CDs. Since october in 1996, the instrument stands in Pleyel's house of birth -- the Pleyel-Museum in Ruppersthal / Lower Austia. The owner now is the Int. Pleyel-Association.

Der original Pleyel-Hammerflügel op.1614 ist eines der letzten zu Pleyel's Lebzeiten von seiner Firma gebauten großen Klaviere (Jänner 1831). Damals erwarb es ein Monsieur Biralle für 2800 französische Francs.

Die Tastatur aus Elfenbein und Ebenholz hat einen Umfang von sechs und ein Viertel Oktaven und einem Ton (DO 1 bis FA 6). Das Klavier besitzt eine halbenglische Mechanik -- die Hämmer sind mit Filz überzogen. Lyra mit zwei Pedalen : Forte und una corda. Der gusseiseren Rahmen und die Stangen unter dem Resonanzbrett verstärken den hölzernen Rahmen und geben eine schöne Klangfülle. Das Instrument stellt vor allem durch den hellen und farbigen Klang ein besonderes musikalisches Dokument dar.

Kein Geringerer als Frédéric Chopin war von den Pleyel-Klavieren beeindruckt _ er lobte die leichte Spielweise des Instruments und schwärmte, dass "nur ein Pleyel das gibt, was man spielt". Das Instrument ist noch voll bespielbar _ in Paris wurde es für Aufnahmen verschiedener CDs benutzt. Seit Oktober 1996 befindet sich das Instrument in Pleyel's Geburtshaus -- dem Pleyel-Museum in Ruppersthal / NÖ und ist Eigentum der Int. Ignaz-Pleyel-Gesellschaft.
