Ramy Essam sings 'Irhal' at Freemuse ceremony - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 23, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
'Irhal' means 'Leave' (as an imperative) in Arabic and became the anthem of the Egyptian protests in Tahrir Square against President Mubarak's dictatorial regime in January and February 2011.

Since then, Ramy has changed the lyrics to be directed at the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, (and he stresses: not "the military" - which you hear him saying in his introduction to the song in this video).

Time Out in London declared Ramy Essam's song 'Irhal' number 3 on a Top 100 list of songs that changed history, stating it is "one of the most influential songs of the modern age."

This video clip of Ramy Essam singing 'Irhal' was filmed at an award ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, on 21 November 2011, where Ramy received the 2011 Freemuse Award.
