PUBLISHED:  Apr 19, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
We'll hear a beautiful interpretation of "The Prayer" complimented by photos of artwork made with colored salt by the Maltese artist/singer/composer, Mario Bonnici who is a member of the MARSA PAGEANT GROUP A.D. 1970, Maria Regina Marsa, Malta

"The Prayer" is most commonly known as a duet between Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli.

"The Prayer" won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song from the Quest for Camelot movie in 1999, the second win in a row for a Celine Dion song. It was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1999 and a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals in 2000. Dion performed it with Bocelli at both ceremonies.

Mario Bonnici is an excellent Maltese artist, singer, composer and a guitar player.

In 1999 he launched a CD Album called 'Mumenti Sbieh" which is still one of the most played on the local radio stations, You can search Youtube for "malpen04 mario bonnici" for his songs.

We asked him how this art is made. Mario told us that he works with salt because it is crystalized and gives a shining effect. Salt is more difficult to work with than other products because of the humidity and he has to warm it often. He uses white salt which he colours to different grades which is then sprinkled patiently from the same height. He does not use any glue. It can be preserved if stored in a humidity controlled room with lots of ventilation. Touching it with fingers will ruin it.
