Busy preparing for the fall release of Cosmic Twins, Monte Negro are ready to showcase a newer and more mature sound with songs that feature more cerebral, textured, and adventurous arrangements. Comprised of brothers Kinski Gallo and Rodax, along with Jason Li-Shing and El Pipe, Monte Negro have been a Los Angeles mainstay for the past eight years with their patented new wave meets alternative rock in the vein of The Cure, Jane’s Addiction, and The Smashing Pumpkins.

This quartet crafts a sound that transcends labels and languages. Monte Negro is bi-lingual and with songs sharing another language, and they ascribe to the idea that “the best music can be understood by anyone.”

Recorded in Los Angeles, the group worked with producer Tone Def to develop a more sophisticated offering, while still maintaining the multi-cultural and diverse tone evident on their 2008 debut Cicatrix (Epic) and 2009’s Fugitives Of Pleasure / Pasajeros EP (self-released).

Tracks like “Perderte (Sonanmbulos Sin Sueno)” signify Monte Negro’s sonic evolution, paying homage to their influences while adding their own spin to things with intricate guitar arrangements over a carefully crafted bass line. Additionally, “Guero (The Underdog),” is a song that chronicles Kinski’s childhood experiences and emphasizes Rodax’s impressive bass skills, whereas the singles “The Longest Day” and “Nada” are hopeful yet unrelenting rockers, highlighting a combination of elegant vocals and furious guitar riffs.

Monte Negro’s passion comes to fruition in their live shows, having shared the stage with the likes of Café Tacuba, Zoe, and Enanitos Verdes. Full of swagger and legitimate rock prowess, Monte Negro channels their skills and energy into their live performances and as Kinski puts it, “it’s where it begins and it all ends.”
