Ceci Bastida

Ceci Bastida was born and raised in Tijuana, Mexico. At the age of 15, she joined Tijuana NO as a lead vocalist, keyboardist and songwriter and became one of the first women to rise in the ranks of Latin rock. One of Mexico's most important ska-punk bands of the 1990, Tijuana NO performed together for 12 years and recorded three albums for BMG: NO, Transgresores de la Ley, and Contra-Revolucion Avenue. In 2000, Ceci joined the band of Mexican alterna-pop icon and top-selling Sony/BMG recording artist Julieta Venegas and has been singing back-up vocals and playing keyboards with her ever since. Ceci is now embarking on her first project as a solo artist. In 2006, she released the critically acclaimed ep FRONT BC and she is now set to release VEO LA MAREA, her full-length debut album co-produced by Ceci, The Gifted (Giant Drag, Gran Ronde, Dirty Little Secret) and David Green (Los Abandoned) It's due in 2009. En 1989 nos juntamos algunos amigos y yo y formamos un grupo que se llamo Tijuana No. Con ellos estuve 12 o 13 años hasta que el ciclo termino. Deje la musica por un rato hasta que Julieta Venegas me invito a formar parte de su grupo en septiembre del 2000. Llevo 7 años tocando con Julieta y han sido años increibles para mi en los que he aprendido y disfrutado mucho. En estos momentos me encuentro grabando temas con distintas personas. He encontrado gente increible durante este trayecto que me ha ayudado a abrir mi mente y entender la musica de otra manera. Disfrutarlo todo y saber que lo demas es lo que menos importa. Volver a los inicios, donde haciamos musica por amor y diversion, agradeciendo siempre el apoyo de la gente.Se ha formado un equipo increible al cual le estoy por siempre agradecida. Asi que ahi vamos, viviendo el momento, paso a paso y sin prisa.

Just this weekend we were listening to XXXChange's awesome remix of "L.E.S. Artistes" and thinking that if he made a new wavey electro-pop album, we would almost certainly make it rain on said album. Our wishes are a little closer to being realized with this bodacious, clicky, gongy track "Controlar," sung en Español by the excellent Tijuana/LA-based vocalist , who Mexican punk completists will remember from border revolutionaries Tijuana NO!, and whose voice is refreshingly husky like a summer rainstorm. Our Spanish is reprehensible, but we are still singing the memorable hook around the office, loudly.
