Jean Pougnet, violin
Frederick Riddle, viola
Anthony Pini, cello

Recorded on May 16, 1941, in Cheltenham Town Hall, Cheltenham, England, on Columbia matrices CAX 8851 through 8856. Issued in July, 1941, as Columbia DX 1014 through DX 1016, and in automatic sequence as DX 8153 through 8155.

For those unfamiliar with this delightful score, publised in 1936 by Stainer & Bell, Ltd., London, and bearing a dedication to the Pasquier Trio, a brief description of its four movements may be helpful:

1. Allegretto giovale (G major, 7-8 time, eighth note = 168).

2. Adagio (at 8:56) (C major, 4-4 time, quarter note = 46).

3. Molto vivace (at 13:24) (E minor, 3-8 time, dotted quarter = 138. At the end (at 16:10) this changes to Lento sostenuto (3-4 time, quarter note = 46) for a transition to the finale.

4. Andante grazioso (at 16:40) (G major, 3-4 time, quarter note = c. 72). For the coda (at 21:00) this changes to Presto (4-4 time [but with 2-4 and 3-4 bars mixed in at points], quarter note = 144).
