HMV Model 101 Gramophone Artie Shaw - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 22, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Here is another of my gramophones, this time an early frontwind model 101 dating from 1925/26. This model was only available during those two years as HMV moved the winding handle to the side sometime late in 1926 or early '27.

Unlike the earlier Model 100 this has a proper internal horn and a ball bearing tone arm fitted with a No.4 sound box. It has a 10" turntable and manual brake and there's space for record storage in the lid. It is finished in black Rexine® with a leather handle, has nickel plated fittings and has recently been cleaned and refurbished and is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. This example is currently fitted with a brass-backed HMV No.2 sound box.

The recording is of Artie Shaw and his orchestra playing 'Zigeuner' from 'Bitter Sweet' by Noel Coward and is number 323 in the Swing Music 1939 Series, on the HMV Label No. B.8937.
