Tuschinski was built in 1921 by a Polish immigrant. He was planning to emigrate to America, but never made it further. During the war, he was arrested and died at the hands of the Nazis. The name of the theatre was changed to Tivoli. After the war, the name was changed back and the building was renovated to its former glory at the turn of the century. Most premiers in the Netherlands still take place at the Tuschinski.
