Official Lyrics to Rules by Starita ft. Jarobi White (of A Tribe Called Quest) and Trent Park

Yeah, I wanna break the rules
(break, break, break, break)

Can I be honest, I think we’ve got a chemistry
Had to say something, cause, I really dig your energy

I don’t wanna get your number
I’m tryna be your number one
Wanna take it straight no chaser
I’ll watch yours, you watch mine

I wanna break the rules
Doing what we’re not supposed to, Causin' trouble, Keep it gangsta
I wanna break the rules
No one ever gonna stop us, break the rules
Maybe

(break, break, break, break)
(We could break
break, break, break)

Stood there Arms folded
Resting bitch face affixed
said she was familiar with
all of my games and tricks
Loved the way I drip game
Name hanging from her lips
black rock star superhero but I ain’t saving shit
See it in my facial features
essence of a special creature
refined game attached no level equal
told me that she had a heart
That ain’t been used much
Bruised and all scarred up
roughed with ungentle touch
Touching on my thigh now I’m trying to ignore it
told her fucking with me was the best thing for it
we could take it to the bedroom, bathroom floor it
we can break all the rules I’m sure you’ll adore it
Yuum, Your touch got me sprung
like you’re trying to convey how you feel wit your tongue
I’ll make your shit bounce epileptic on the drum
So when you hear my name it should make you wanna…

I wanna break the rules
Doing what we’re not supposed to, Causin’ trouble, Keep it gangsta
I wanna break the rules
No one ever gonna stop us
Break the Rules

(We could break)

Maybe (Make your shit bounce epileptic on the drum)
This will last forever (Make your shit bounce epileptic on the drum)
Maybe (Make your shit bounce epileptic on the drum)
This will last forever
(We could break)

Chorus x2

Do what we’re not supposed to
I just wanna break
break the rules

More About Starita Rules:

Starita is a 2 time Grammy recognized producer and artist. His newly released single, premiered by Billboard Magazine showcases Starita’s deep roots in dance and funk music; kicking off the collaborative effort featuring a dream team of artists.

Surprise guest features in the making of the Starita Rules video include J Bowman of Michael Franti and Spearhead on guitar. Recordings took place at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, Different Fur Studios in San Francisco, and Sonic Faction in Los Angeles, California. The world-renowned Fantasy Studios is the birthplace of many acclaimed artists such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, Green Day, Santana, and more. Given the collaborative nature of Rules, it was fitting that recordings also took place at Different Fur Studio, known in its early years as an artists’ commune. Clients included Toro Y Moi, K. Flay, The Mother Hips, Tegan and Sara, and others. Sonic Faction, located in the historic Henson Recording Studios lot showcases legendary credits including Whipped Cream & Other Delights (Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass), Tapestry (Carole King), Blue (Joni Mitchell), Rock & Roll (John Lennon), A Kind of Hush (The Carpenters), We Are The World (USA for Africa).

Rules is the first single in the debut Album, Starita – For the Record, speaking to that can-do (and will-do, damn it) spirit, which dares to defy odds and break the “rules” of music genres. This upcoming EP will blend both deep cuts with party tunes as it aims to go beyond genre barriers. A lot of the songs do not follow conventions and focuses on doing what’s right for the song and not trying to squeeze it into any confines.
