Micltan - The Underworld - The Land of the Dead

Let us take you on a musical journey through the levels of the Mexica underworld. A Journey to Mictlan.

The Mexicas believed there were different places a person could go to in their afterlife, and it was the way they died and not how they behaved in life, which determined the place their soul would rest.

To Mictlan arrived only those who had ordinary deaths, and completed a series of obstacles in the 8 levels of the underworld before arriving at Mictlan (the 9th). This Journey lasted 4 years.

In honor of the dead, “ofrendas” or altars were elaborated where loved ones placed all kinds of amulets and objects that helped and prepared the deceased for the arduous journey to Mictlan. This was done during 4 consecutive years, for they assumed the souls had reached their destination.


Mictlan - El Inframundo

Tema compuesto e interpretado por OME, basado en el inframundo Mexica; un sitio mitológico que consistía en nueve planos extendidos -probablemente debajo de la tierra-, orientados hacia el norte.

Al noveno piso del Inframundo, se le conocía como Mictlán (El lugar de los muertos), en donde el Dios Mictlantecuhtli (señor del lugar de los muertos), y Mictlancíhuatl (señora del lugar de los muertos), regían el mundo subterráneo.
