In the post-superstar DJ era, at last the REAL stars of dance music are being recognised. It's not the champagne-swilling, drug-addled, Ferrari-driving, walking cash machines who swoop into three clubs a night, play an hour then pocket a wad of notes and take off again.
No, the lynchpins of dance music are those who allow the so-called big names to do what they do, the DJs who lay the foundations before the guests take the glory. Michael Paterson is one of those DJs, widely regarded as one of Scotland's leading lights and the first name promoters turn to when they need an assured, top quality DJ who will connect with their crowd rather than just bang out a few big tunes, take the money and run.
Michael has built a reputation as one of the most exciting talents in the UK. With residencies and guest spots at every club, event and festival in Scotland and many further afield as word of his skills spreads, he is the type of DJ every club needs.
With an innate understanding of what makes a crowd go wild, he takes firm control, weaving an intricate soundscape which will take the packed dancefloor on a late-night journey through the dark back streets of underground dance music.
With wide-ranging tastes which see him blend everything from cutting edge techno to deep house, 80s synth pop to electro and progressive to funk, Paterson reads a crowd like no other DJ, making them completely his, entertaining, educating and thrilling them as he teases them relentlessly before causing carnage with towering breakdowns.
2009 has been his best year to date, with notable guest posts including a key support slot at the 10,000 sell-out Tiesto concert at Glasgow's SECC. He has played festivals, the usual Ibiza slots and of course his numerous residencies.
Also a highly respected producer, Michael continues to create stunningly different dance music through his own works and remixes. 2009 was the busiest year so far on the production front with tracks and remixes on
Armada, More Music, Phunk Solution, Influential House, We Continue, Southside Recordings, Sound Evolution & Limbo. 2009 also saw the release of the Limbo Mixed series in which Michael was chosen to kick it off with a one hour mix of the labels releases
2010 will be even busier with releases already scheduled on the quality deep house label Endemic and prog label Full Tiltin and collaborations with David Forbes, Sonny Wharton, Tali Freaks and Oliver Lang confirmed.
His podcast session on Itunes is growing every month with 20,000 subscribers, showcasing the latest tracks in a 45 minute mix format.
So give yourself a break – forget the bill-toppers and check out the DJ who will save your life – tonight.
