"NUCLEAR SPINACH" by MICHAEL JOST - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 21, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
Michael Jost's original composition "Nuclear Spinach" recorded and videotaped live on August 20Th 2009.  The setting was an original cottage on the Venice canals built in 1918.
As the creator of the video and owner of the cottage it was my vision to capture the soul of the house in a live performance by my friend and master musician Michael Jost. Sadly this was the last performance at our cottage for it was demolished two weeks later to make room for our growing family. Michael a Venice resident and I believe that "If you dont fit in anywhere else, you end up in Venice" This quote opens our video in both English and German (Michael's native language) It was directed by Steve Forner and Daniel Sullivan who both volunteered to carry out my vision of documenting the last days of this Venice beach house. Michael played "Nuclear Spinach" 34 times live on a custom made Candelas guitar hand crafted by Thomas Delgado a 4Th generation luthier from east Los Angeles. The video was shot on one Panasonic HVX 100A and two Sony HDV camcorders all in High Definition. The audio was recorded by Philip Williams on a borrowed AEA R88 Ribbon microphone from Reinhold Bogner (Bogner Amps) The video was edited by Steve Forner and myself (Steven Gatto) on an Avid editing system in two weeks.
I will never forget the nights that friends gathered around our fire pit in the backyard while Michael played classical guitar and this hot summer night served as a heartfelt goodbye to our little cottage. Total Budget $67.00...One Pizza pie $16.00, One bottle of Rowans Creek single barrel bourbon $36.00 and three HDV tapes $5.00 each. Finished product Priceless.
