JADEN MICHAELS discovered the transformational power of songs at a very young age. However, the in-demand songwriter and singer didn't realize the best way to wield that power until much later.

Growing up with a single mother in Davenport, IA, she became fascinated by everybody from Stevie Nicks and Christina Aguilera to Aerosmith and Lauryn Hill as they piped through the living room stereo. When mom got married, the family relocated to Southern California. After a talent agent signed her at the age of ten, she led Disney pop group Mac 7 before leaving to attend Hollywood Pop Academy. After a short-lived stint in another girl ensemble, LAX, she had a deal in the works with the legendary Tommy Mottola. However, it didn't work out.

She then met Joleen Belle...

Belle encouraged the 18-year-old to begin penning songs for other artists. In 2009, her song "Love Game" became a triple-platinum hit for Namie Amuro in Japan. Pulse Recordings signed JADEN, and she soon became one of the most sought-after writers in the game.

"At Pulse Recordings, I was like the baby of the company," she smiles. "They threw me into sessions that Bonnie McKee would've been in, but she wasn't available. Artists started requesting me for sessions. It was amazing!"

She crafted "Change Nothing", which Jessica Sanchez sang on the finale of 2012's American Idol. The next year, the very first song Jaden wrote "I Am Beautiful" clinched victory for Candice Glover on American Idol. Since then, she's gone on to write "Sorry" for Naya Rivera and Big Sean, "Louder" and "What Is Love?" for Lea Michelle, new music for Robin Thicke and songs on Jennifer Lopez's forthcoming album A.K.A. coming in June 2014. Still, the best way to meet JADEN is on her own music.

"I went through so much when I was younger," she continues. "I thought I knew what it took be an artist. I'm so emotionally tough. Writing for other acts helped me understand myself. If I didn't do that, I wouldn't be able to clearly deliver my vision. I appreciate this chance more now. I still have more to learn, but I'm finally ready."

You can hear it on her debut single "Walk On." Over bright yet sparse production, she delivers a surprisingly soulful anthem that indisputably pops. It sits between the experimentation of Gotye and the perfected bombast of Adele. She reveals, "Lyrically, it can go in many different ways. Most people might think it's a relationship song. It's not. I'm telling my older self to walk on. I couldn't stay the person I was. I moved on. It's introspective, and progressing from those hang-ups empowered me."

With "Walk On," JADEN stands primed to inspire with her songs. "When people hear these songs, I hope they see this little girl who came from nothing, went through so much, and is here doing it," she concludes. "You can't just dream. You have to put it in motion. I'm proof of that, and I'm being honest with every word I write. This is who I am."
