Menta-Sounds of da Future (2001 garage) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 27, 2009
DESCRIPTION:
Awesome garage/bassline track from 2001 by Menta, a duo who consisted of Arthur Smith and Danny Harrison. They only produced a small handful of garage tracks under this alias before moving on to work on a disco house project together once garage faded out of the limelight after 2003 titled Moto Blanco. However their work deserves a mention, specifically this track. The focus of this six minute piece of funk is it's simple yet catchy bassline, which is wrapped tightly around a nice fleeting 2-step drumloop. This tune was very similar in style to much of DJ Zinc's breakbeat work around that time, so it was only fitting that they had him take on the reigns and put out a drum and bass remix in 2003 as one of the earliest releases on his Bingo imprint. Darqwan also had a breaks remix on the flip side of this record, and a hard to find test press floating about that consisted of a remix of Menta which was based loosely off Nuyorican Soul's classic anthem "Nervous Track". Danny Harrison's biggest claim to fame was his work in speed garage in the late 1990's, serving as one half of 187 Lockdown.

Edit: I apologize for getting the track and group name reversed when I first posted this. After getting a nasty commont followed up with some personal attacks in my inbox by JOHYEAHM, I figured that fixing it was long overdue!
