Matthew Stevens Quintet performs David Bowie's "Sunday" as part of The Checkout - Live at Berklee, April 2, 2014, at the Red Room at Cafe 939.

New York's WBGO-FM and NPR Music proudly present "The Checkout: Live at Berklee," a concert series that brings critically acclaimed New York-based performers back to their Berklee roots for a performance at Boston's Cafe 939 on April 2, 2014.

Matthew Stevens is one of his generation's preeminent guitarists. Since graduating from Berklee, where he was awarded the Guitar Department's highest honor, the Jimi Hendrix Award, Stevens' incendiary playing has earned him regular action with such bandleaders as Terri Lyne Carrington, Christian Scott and Dr. Lonnie Smith. He has written songs with soul singer Chris Turner, collaborated with producers Gavin Brown and Glen Ballard, and is a member of genre-bending groups NEXT Collective and ERIMAJ. Stevens continues to expand his boundaries this year. In addition to new recordings with saxophonist Walter Smith III and legendary drummer Harvey Mason, he will release his debut as a leader supported by Vicente Archer, Gerald Clayton, Eric Doob and Paulo Stagnaro.
