ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Founded by Jeff Berlin in 1996, The Players School of Music is a music school created to improve music education by teaching students according to their ability to learn. The music school introduced a bold new concept in music education: that students had time to become familiar with their homework and practice without pressure. Memorization of music was removed from study. Review and daily practice were emphasized at this music school.

Beginning in three rooms, the school trained mostly Florida-based players in the ways of reading, soloing, and comping on their instruments. Harmony and ear training classes were added to round out the players' need for a broader musical understanding.

With the need for more space, the music school moved to a larger facility in 1998 and added new playing programs to the music schools course list. In 1999, the music school moved locations to one of the most beautiful sights for a music school in the world: the historic Kapok Gardens. With its waterfalls, sculptures, tropical flora, and ivy-covered walls, the Players School is a music school that has one
of the most unique settings for music studies anywhere. In March 1999, Department of Education of the State of Florida licensed The Players School of Music as the only "alternative private independent music school in the State. Currently, no other privately run music schools in Florida is similarly licensed.

In 2000, many new changes took place to the music school. The US Department of Homeland Security has authorized The Players School of Music to enroll foreign students. The school began its Master Class Series by inviting outside professionals from every area of music to come and teach. Renowned guest musicians, recording industry personnel, and a variety of music-connected professionals come and lecture to our student body at our music school.

Playing well and learning well is our motto. The school continues to upgrade its programs with new methods of playing and practicing to help you learn music on and off your instrument.

ABOUT MATT BOKULIC

Matt Bokulic studied piano and composition at Berklee College of Music, The University of Massachusetts and The University of South Florida. He has played and recorded with Celine Dion, John Laporta, Rick Derringer, Reeves Gabrels, and The Nelson Riddle Orchestra. He also wrote "Contemporary Harmony: A Practical Approach," "The Interrelationship of Scale Patterns," and "Sixty Disciplines to Keyboard Freedom."
